Men's Spirituality
Writing as a Form of Self-Awareness
 |
At the center of the writing process lies a self-replenishing miracle of discovers -- sometimes finding insights about the world, but also understanding ourselves better, and opening the door to new awarenesses of future paths in our lives. In this morning’s presentation, Jim Rogers will explore ways he has found writing to be helpful for self-exploration and will describe tools and approaches for getting at what Yeats called “the deep heart’s core.” |
| PRESENTER: Jim Rogers is director of the Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas and editor of the journal, New Hibernia Review. An essayist and poet, he has taught courses on memoir for various community education groups and frequently presents on autobiography at academic conferences, and has published a number of scholarly articles on Irish autobiography. Rogers’ chapbook of poems Sundogs appeared from Parallel Press in 2006; his collection of essays on sacred space, “Places Near the Dead,” is due out from BlueRoad Press in 2010. |
